Diablo 4 Season 14’s Worst Mythic Change Is No More: “Not Every Idea Lands”
In a rapid reversal, Blizzard has removed the highly controversial restriction limiting players to one equipped crafted-Mythic item per character in Diablo 4 Season 14.

Diablo 4 Reverses Course on Season 14’s Most Punishing Mythic Restriction
Blizzard has swiftly undone what many players and content creators labeled the single worst change introduced in Diablo 4’s Season 14. The restriction, which prevented players from equipping more than one crafted Mythic item, was silently removed in a hotfix deployed on July 16 for PC, with console platforms scheduled to receive the patch shortly after on July 17.
The move signals a direct response to overwhelming community backlash and acknowledges a design misstep in the season’s initial patch.
The Change That Broke the Buildcraft
When Season 14 launched, it brought a host of new features and balance adjustments. Among them was a fundamental limit on Mythic item usage: players could only equip a single item crafted from the new, powerful “Mythic” materials. This directly targeted endgame build diversity, where stacking multiple Mythic items was often the cornerstone of powerful, aspirational character progression.
The reaction was immediate and intense. Builds that relied on synergies between two or three Mythic items—such as specific combinations for Rogues or Sorcerers—were rendered unviable overnight. The restriction was perceived as a heavy-handed nerf to player power and creative freedom, stifling the very endgame experimentation the season aimed to promote.
A Mea Culpa from Development
In a post on the official Blizzard forums accompanying the patch, Game Director Joe Shely addressed the situation with notable transparency.
“We wanted to share an update on the one-equipped-crafted-Mythic restriction. After seeing your feedback and analyzing its impact on the game, we have decided to remove this restriction effective immediately for PC, with console to follow tomorrow. Not every idea lands, and this one missed the mark. Our goal is to ensure Diablo 4 remains a game where you can build powerful characters in the way that you want to play.”
The hotfix simply removed the equipment limit, restoring the status quo for Mythic items and effectively re-opening the floodgates for endgame buildcraft.
Immediate Impact and Future Balance
With the change reverted, players who had shelved their favorite builds or felt locked out of progression can now resume their original plans. The economy of Mythic materials and the chase for multiple perfect items is once again the primary driver for many in the endgame.
This swift correction suggests Blizzard is closely monitoring player sentiment and gameplay data post-launch. While the initial change likely aimed to temper power creep or encourage build diversity, its execution underestimated how integral Mythic item synergies had become to the meta. The lesson learned will likely inform future balance passes, where the goal will be to introduce meaningful choices without removing existing avenues for player expression. For now, Sanctuary’s heroes can once again wield their arsenal of Mythic artifacts without artificial limitation.
